Dear John Education Campaign

Dear John was an educational awareness campaign created in coalition by former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, youthSpark (then the Juvenile Justice Fund), law enforcement, and others.

The Campaign was a part of Franklin’s Atlanta Women’s Agenda (AWA), and was intended to educate and inspire audiences to act against the commercial sexual exploitation of children.

The Dear John campaign is widely regarded as an historic first step by a public official in fearlessly acknowledging the realities of child sex trafficking.

Today we try to operate in that same spirit of fearlessness first demonstrated on the issue of youth sex trafficking in Georgia by Mayor Franklin years ago. The philosophy behind our policy advocacy approach is to lead boldly, while keeping the interests of exploited and trafficked youth front-and-center. We aim to “push the envelope” on behalf of our youth by advocating from research-based facts, and then collaborating with strategic partners for a unified voices.
